There is a recall on this item. If you have a black spool cap, you are affected. Obtaining the new spool and cap fixes all of the complaints I am seeing here. I was fairly irritated with this machine before I got my replacement parts.

Trimmers with date codes 200546 by means of 200645 (representing manufacturing dates of Nov. 14, 2005, through Nov. 6, 2006) are included in this recall. Buyers can identify the date code on the underside of the trimmer's deal with. Trimmers with black spool caps are included in the recall, but products with orange spool caps are not.

Like many reviewers, I had spindle complications with the Grass Hog XP when I initially got it. But one call to Black Decker got me a newly redesigned spindle sent to me by way of UPS, and I've under no circumstances had a difficulty with it considering the fact that. In any case, this has got to be the most powerful trimmer/edger that I could come across which could be plugged into an outlet. Getting that I hate every little thing about gas trimmers (i.e. bad smells, loud noise), I relished being able to just plug in the Grass Hog XP, pull the trigger, and just get the job done. I like its edging function It makes the cement walkway major up to my front door appear that substantially alot more presentable And if you want a tiny a lot more additional length, just push the black button that's in front of the manage, pull the poll forward, and it just clicks into spot. Each one in awhile, I have discovered that the AFS will give me a small too significantly line. But I just simply get some scissors, cut off the excess I am back on track (I wonder if the reviewers who whined about that have a pair handy?)
